I discovered Hatha Yoga in midlife after being diagnosed with osteoarthritis and an autoimmune disease called CREST. The combination of these diseases caused a chronic debilitating pain syndrome that led to several medications, alteration of lifestyle, and a general feeling of helplessness. A co-worker suggested yoga and literally took me by the hand to my first month of classes. Because of my nursing background I was doubtful; but she was persistent, and the results were remarkable. Over time I developed a regular practice and learned how to reduce the pain, improve my flexibility, increase my strength and no longer feel helpless in managing my pain. I began my Yoga practice mid-life. As certified teacher with the Yoga Alliance, I study, practice and teach Iyengar Yoga. I am currently a Teacher in Training at the Iyengar Institute in New York City and study primarily with Mary Dunn and James Murphy. I have also studied Mindfulness Meditation with Jon Kabot-Zinn and have been certified by their training program. I am grateful to all of my teachers for sharing their skill, providing guidance and their endless patience teaching me. |

I have been practicing Yoga based on the teachings and method of B.K.S. Iyengar for 12 years. I started my journey with Yoga in India, and continued in Israel and in the U.S.A. The first years of practice healed me in every level of being. I have completed a teacher training program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of Greater New York, 5 years ago, and have been teaching since then. I have studied with the Iyengar family in India for a month. Throughout my pregnancy and labor the Yoga practice has been my best companion. The love to Yoga, the self-growth, and the deep experience of the mind-body-soul connection through practicing Yoga, are my guiding forces in teaching. Iyengar Yoga mission, style and method is what I pass along to my students: it is universal because anyone can practice it, staying loyal to his believes and becoming closer to his roots. It offers a sense of precision, direction and correct body alignment, combing passion and compassion throughout the practice – knowing who we are and where we are so as to work harmonically with our physical and mental challenges. Practicing Yoga is a balance between being inspired to dare and change, and between accepting our natural limitations. |
